During the two World Wars, serving members of the armed forces who were killed abroad were buried in Commonwealth War Cemeteries near to where they fell.
Those who died in the UK were, in many cases, buried in their local cemeteries. Those who had left the service but died subsequently from wounds received may be buried in their local churchyard but not in War Graves.
The North Mymms History Project's Mike Allen has been researching the war graves of St Mary's, North Mymms.

St Mary's church has two WWI war graves in the Old Churchyard, and seven WWII war graves in the New Burial Ground.
All are maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), who
inspect and clean on them on a rota of three to four years. St Mary's church maintains the churchyard around the war graves. Any queries as to the condition of the headstones should be addressed directly to the CWGC. Queries regarding the churchyard should be made to St Mary’s church.

The two WWI graves are in the Old Churchyard south-west of the front of the West Door of the church tower. They are to the rear of the seats by the side of the Remembrance Plot.

WWII war graves

The seven WWII burials are in the New Burial Ground which can be found by walking the green path from the main entrance to the church - the South Door - directly to the line of trees, or from the entrance that can be found from the road where it forks to the church car park.
